Martin's DeLorme File download page for truckers

I've been using DeLorme Streets with GPS reciever since about 2002. My first reciever worked off batteries and attached to my serial port. Thankfully new GPS recivers connect to USB. Problem is, DeLorme still isn't made for trucks. Even though this is an indispensible tool for trucking, you still need to use your head as far as restricted routes and low bridges. Should you come across a low bridge or restricted route, a GPS program like DeLorme streets can be a big help for getting you out of the situation you are in. But it is far handier to know where these hazards are before your trip. Fortunately there are several files that can be downloaded that show you the location of low bridges, restricted routes, scales, truck stops, and other stuff important to truckers. You can find many of those files at http://POI-Factory.Com or http://www.highwaytrucker.com/GPS.php. Unfortunately they are often formated for Garmin or other GPS, and therefore requires a bit of knowledge of DeLorme, windows, and computers in general to import the information into DeLorme. Therefore I figured I'd make this page where you can download DeLorme files pertaining to trucking. These files don't contain nearly all restrictions, low bridges, or truck services. Therefore whenever I find information pertaining to trucking, I add it to my map.  Some times I use shorthand. TS is for truckstop (with a sit down restaurant), F is for fuel stop, G is for gravel lot. Any thing with ? means I'm not sure if trucks are welcome. You might wish to make a backup of your 'DeLome Docs' folder before downloading and using these files. Sharing DeLorme data is still kinda a learning experience to me, and I take no responsibility for files that you may lose, or other incidents due to the misuse of this data. One known issue is that if you load more than one DMT file, it might cause duplicate AN1 files. I deleted the extra files from my computer without any data loss, but even still I made back ups before doing this. To see step by step instructions on how to use this stuff, be sure to check out the documentation page. Thanks.

ForTheWeb.dmt
The first file contains low bridges (of course, not ALL low bridges), scales, major truck stops, minor truck stops and other places you can park a truck, trucker chapels, and other trucking information. I'm adding more information all the time, nearly every trip. So click on the link. It should give you the option to open it with DeLorme (you might want to have your data backed up at this point) If so, then you are all set. If not save the file. Then go into DeLorme (directions for version 2007 and earlier may differ), click the 'Map Files' tab. Click the 'File' button (located on left side), choose 'Transfer', then 'Import...'. Then choose this file. For more instruction, check out the documentation page.
BigFile.dmt
This file is like ForTheWeb above, but also includes Covered Bridges, Red Light Cams, Rail Road Crossings, and some other stuff. You install it the same way you'd install ForTheWeb. With either file, if you don't wish to see all the information, just click the 'Draw' tab, then 'Files...', then uncheck the stuff you don't want to see right now. Check it when you do want to see it. For more instruction, check out the documentation page.
MyFile.dmt
This is the file I use in DeLorme. It includes everything from US Xpress locations, personal files such as good places to go offroading, and other information that's probably of no use to you. But I figured I'd include this for good measure. For more instruction, check out the documentation page.
AN1 Files
For those of you who don't want the whole package, you can download and install individual AN1 files. When you click the link, it will take you to a directory. Click the file you wish to download, and save it someplace you can find it again. Then go into DeLorme (directions for version 2007 and earlier may differ), click the 'Map Files' tab. Click the 'Add' button, and select draw files. Then just select the file you have downloaded. For more instruction, check out the documentation page.
Your File
You probably go places I haven't been, and seen stuff I haven't seen, and might even want to notate stuff I might not be interested in. For that I would suggest creating a new draw file. You can do that by clicking the draw tab, then 'File' then 'New'. Give it a name. Make sure 'Active' is checked. Then when you see something, right click on it, select 'Add Mapnote', then 'Blank Mapnote', and type what you want. Then press enter (use CTRL Enter for another line. Make sure to save with CTRL S. For more instruction, check out the documentation page.
